ERBIL — President Emmanuel Macron of France said on Tuesday that his country will not oppose to Kurdistan Region’s independence referendum scheduled for next week.

Speaking to reporters on the sideline of the UN’s General Assembly in New York, Macron however hoped that the move by Erbil abides by the constitution.

He also called on Kurdistan Region President to allow every religious and ethnic component in the region to have a voice in the imminent referendum.

However, he said that Erbil and Baghdad should resolve all their problems in peace and through dialogue. The French president also reiterated his country's commitment to help the region recover from years of conflicts, and restore stability.
