Hengaw: Kurdish political prisoner Hossein Osmani, who was sentenced to 30 years in prison, has received news at Urmia Central Prison that he will be executed this week.

Kurdish political prisoner Hossein Osmani was summoned to the headquarters of the Etlaat (Iranian Secret Service) in Urmia, Western Azerbaijan province, on July 20, 2020. The Etlaat forced him to sign a form the contents of which he did not know. Hossein Osmani refused and was consequently beaten up and threatened that he would be executed this Wednesday, July 22.

A source from the prison told Hengaw that a few days ago an imam named Wekilpour visited the political section in the central prison in Urmia with someone from the judicial authority of the Islamic Republic of Iran. There the prisoner Hossein Osmani is said to have asked the Imam Wekilpour to have his case checked again. Wekilpour then informed him that his execution could not be stopped.

Hossein Osmani was arrested on March 14, 2014 and sentenced to death by hanging in front of an audience by the Revolutionary Court in Mahabad with two other Kurdish prisoners named Sabir Sheikh Abdollah and Diako Rasoulzade for "hostility to God and the Prophet". The prisoners were accused of participating in the Mahabad bombing in 2010 and being members of the Kurdish Komalah party.

In January 2016, Hossein Osmani's death sentence was converted to 30 years in prison by the Revolutionary Court in Urmia. Sabir Sheikh Abdollah and Diako Rasoulzade were hanged in Urmia prison on July 14, 2020.
