UN chief hails Kurdish PKK disbanding as 'important step' towards peace

United Nations, United States, May 12, 2025 (AFP) — UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Monday welcomed the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) announcement that it is disbanding and ending its four-decade insurgency against the Turkish state, his spokesman said.
"This decision, if implemented, represents another important step towards a peaceful resolution of long-standing conflict," Stephane Dujarric told reporters.
