DIYARBAKIR, Turkey, Feb 25, 2012 (AFP) — One Turkish soldier was killed and another was injured in a mine explosion near the Syrian border, local sources said on Saturday, blaming Kurdish separatists, .

The mine was placed by the rebel Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) on a highway in the Nusaybin district of Mardin province, the sources told AFP.

The PKK, listed as a terrorist organisation by Turkey and much of the international community, took up arms in Kurdish-majority southeastern Turkey in 1984, sparking a conflict that has claimed about 45,000 lives.
