ANKARA, June 7, 2010 (AFP) — The Turkish air force bombed Monday several positions of outlawed Kurdish rebel group, the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), in northern Iraq, the news channel NTV reported.

Combat planes targeted PKK positions in the Zap-Khakurk area of the autonomous Kurdish zone in the north of Iraq, the channel reported.

The raid came the day after the end of a five-day visit to Turkey of the president of the autonomous zone, Massoud Barzani, who had promised authorities here he would "make all efforts" to stop attacks on Turkey from his territory.

The army did not immediately comment on the air strikes.
