DIYARBAKIR, Turkey, Sept 12, 2011 (AFP) — Three people were killed after Kurdish rebels attacked local police buildings in southeastern Turkey, security sources said on Monday.

Two of the dead were a soldier and a policeman, said the sources, adding that 10 soldiers and policemen were wounded during the raid in the Semdinli district of Hakkari, in southeastern Anatolia.

One of the dead was a child, according to the private NTV television.

The Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), listed as a terrorist group by Ankara and much of the international community, took up arms in Kurdish-majority southeast Turkey in 1984, sparking a conflict that has claimed about 45,000 lives.
