Qamishli, Syria, Oct 16, 2019 (AFP) — The head of the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces, under Turkish attack since a US troop withdrawal, announced Wednesday it was "freezing" operations against the Islamic State group.

"We have frozen all our actions against Daesh," Mazloum Abdi told Kurdish television channel Ronahi, using an Arabic acronym for the jihadists.

The SDF, which helped defeat IS with the support of the US-led coalition, said would only carry out defensive operations.
