Syria Kurdish force says committed to ceasefire deal with govt

Qamishli, Syria, Jan 20, 2026 (AFP) — The Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces said they were committed to a four-day ceasefire deal announced by the Damascus authorities as part of an understanding reached on Tuesday.

"We announce our forces' full commitment to the ceasefire... we will not initiate any military action if our forces are not subject to attacks," the SDF said in a statement, adding that it was ready to "move forward with implementing" an agreement announced by Damascus on Sunday.
