ANKARA, Sept 22, 2008 (AFP) — A bomb exploded Monday in mainly Kurdish southeast Turkey, killing a soldier and wounding two other people, the Anatolia news agency reported.

The remote-control device, left on a wall surrounding a building in Yuksekova town, went off as a group of soldiers were walking home after work, the report said.

Another soldier and a passer-by were injured, it said.

There was no immediate word on who was responsible for the attack.

Separatist Kurdish rebels often target the security forces in Turkey's southeast as part of their 24-year armed campaign for Kurdish self-rule in the region. The conflict has claimed more than 40,000 lives.
