BAGHDAD, Dec 18, 2007 (AFP) — US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said on Tuesday the United States, Iraq and Turkey shared a "common interest" in stopping the activity of Kurdish rebels.

Rice, who is on a surprise visit to Iraq, told reporters in Baghdad that the activities of Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) were threatening "the stability in the north which clearly has resulted in deaths in Turkey."

On Tuesday, around 300 Turkish soldiers entered northern Iraq to flush out PKK guerrillas in the first reported incursion by Ankara into the battered country.
