Nearly 40 jihadists killed in clashes after Syria prison attack: monitor

Beirut, Jan 21, 2022 (AFP) — Nearly 40 Islamic State group fighters were killed in fierce clashes with Kurdish security forces following a jihadist attack on a prison in northeastern Syria, a war monitor said Friday.
The 39 jihadists were killed in battles in and around Ghwayran prison in the city of Hasakeh as Kurdish security forces attempted to thwart a mass jailbreak, the Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said.
