Kurd rebels extend truce until June election: report

Monday, 1 November, 2010 , 12:01

ANKARA, Nov 1, 2010 (AFP) — Separatist Kurdish rebels announced Monday they had extended a truce until Turkey's general elections, expected in June, the Firat news agency, which is close to the rebels, reported.

The agency said the decision was announced by the rebel leadership, without giving other immediate details.

The truce had been declared on August 13.

Turkey's next general elections have not been formally scheduled yet but Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said last month his party had earmarked the first week of June 2011.
