DUKAN, Iraq, July 29, 2009 (AFP) — Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki will visit the autonomous Kurdistan region shortly to discuss land and oil disputes with authorities in Arbil, Kurdish president Massud Barzani told AFP on Wednesday.

"He will visit Kurdistan soon, to discuss and to solve all pending problems between us and Baghdad," said Barzani, whose re-election as president was confirmed on Wednesday.

Tensions between Baghdad and Arbil have heightened in recent months over a disputed swathe of land along Kurdistan's border with the rest of Iraq, and over oil exports.
