Iraq Kurd chief asks MPs to organise independence vote

ARBIL, Iraq, July 03, 2014 (AFP) — Massud Barzani, the president of Iraq's autonomous Kurdish region, on Thursday asked its parliament to start organising a referendum on independence.

Parliament should make "preparations to begin to organise a referendum on the right of self-determination," Barzani said, according to a recording obtained by AFP of his remarks made in the closed session.
