Iraq's Kurdistan region says hopes ceasefire upheld 'in good faith'

Erbil, Iraq, April 8, 2026 (AFP) — Iraq's autonomous Kurdistan region on Wednesday welcomed the ceasefire agreement between the US and Iran, with its president saying he hoped all parties would adhere to it "in good faith".

President Nechirvan Barzani said in a post on X that the agreement "represents an important step towards de-escalation, the protection of civilians and the restoration of constructive dialogue".

"I hope all parties will uphold this commitment in good faith and work towards a lasting peace that promotes stability, security, and prosperity throughout the entire region," he added.
