Hijacker of Turkish airliner gives himself up: reports

ANKARA, April 10, 2007 (AFP) — A man who hijacked a Turkish airliner on Tuesday and forced it to land in Ankara gave himself up to the authorities, television channels reported.

The plane was flying between Istanbul and the mainly Kurdish city of Diyarbakir in southeast Turkey when it was taken over, Turkish television reported.

The jet was operated by Pegasus airlines.

The hijacker was a Turk named Mehmet Gokcingol, a transport ministry official, Ibrahim Sahin, was quoted as saying by Turkish media.
