Gunmen kill prominent Kurd in Syria: activists

DAMASCUS, Oct 7, 2011 (AFP) — A prominent Kurdish opposition figure to the regime of President Bashar al-Assad was shot dead on Friday when gunmen stormed his home at Qamishli in north Syria, rights activists said.

Meshaal Tamo, 53, was killed by four masked gunmen who also wounded his son Marcel and another fellow activist in the Kurdish Future Party, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said.
