France court jails migrant smugglers over 2022 Channel deaths

Lille, France, June 30, 2025 (AFP) — A French court Monday sentenced nine Afghan and Kurdish men to seven to eight years in jail over the deadly capsizing of a boat carrying migrants from France to England in 2022.
Three of those convicted, including one being tried in absentia, were handed eight years behind bars, while the rest were sentenced to seven years over the disaster that killed eight people.
