ANKARA, Oct 6, 2008 (AFP) — The death toll from a Kurdish rebel attack on a Turkish border outpost last week reached 17 Monday as the army said that the bodies of two missing soldiers were found.

The general staff said in a statement that Turkish forces had recovered the two bodies, without giving other details.

Militants from the separatist Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) based in neighbouring Iraq attacked a Turkish border outpost Friday under the cover of heavy weapons fire from bases in northern Iraq.

At least 23 rebels were killed in the ensuing clashes, according to the army.

The PKK said earlier Monday it had the bodies of two soldiers.
