DIYARBAKIR, Turkey, Jan 3, 2008 (AFP) — At least four people were killed and 35 injured in a car-bomb explosion Thursday in Diyarbakir, the main city in Turkey's predominantly Kurdish southeast, hospital sources said.

The NTV news channel reported that the dead could be high school students attending private lessons at a building close to the blast site.

The injured included both soldiers and civilians, the sources said.

Police said a car-bomb caused the blast that occurred as a military vehicle was passing on a road in the city centre, some 100 metres (yards) from a military base and billets.
