GENEVA, Sept 22, 2014 (AFP) — Some 100,000 Syrian Kurds have crossed the border into Turkey over the past few days, fleeing an advance by Islamic State jihadists who have seized dozens of villages near a strategic border town, the UN said on Monday.
"The (Turkish) government announced the 100,000 in the media and confirmed the figure to us," said Melissa Fleming, the spokeswoman for the UN refugee agency, the UNHCR.
