ANKARA, June 16, 2010 (AFP) — Turkish soldiers on Wednesday crossed into northern Iraq in pursuit of Kurdish rebels who attacked border guards, and killed four militants, the army said in a statement.

The cross-border operation by commandos and special forces units came after rebels from the Kurdistan Workers' Party fled into northern Iraq following their attack on guards at the Iraqi frontier, the army said in a statement on its website.

"Four terrorists were killed in clashes at the border and two to three kilometres" (1.2 to 1.8 miles) inside Iraqi territory, the statement added.
