ARBIL, Iraq, May 9, 2007 (AFP) — A truck bomb exploded Wednesday, killing seven people in front of the interior ministry in Arbil, the capital of Iraq's normally calm Kurdish autonomous region, police said.

The blast also wounded 30 people and destroyed several cars, added the local police, in a rare incident in Iraq's Kurdish autonomous region which has largely been spared the unrest further south.

In May 2005 a suicide bommber killed 46 people in Arbil, but otherwise, the three predominantly Kurdish provinces have been peaceful.
