BAGHDAD, March 11, 2010 (AFP) — The Kurdistania alliance, made up of the Kurdish autonomous region's two long-dominant parties, was in the lead in the Iraqi province of Arbil, an election official told AFP on Thursday.

"Kurdistania is in the lead in Arbil, followed by Goran, and then the Etihad Islamic Union," said Iyad al-Kinaani, an official in Iraq's Independent High Electoral Commission.

Kurdistania is made up of regional president Massud Barzani's Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) and the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) of Iraqi President Jalal Talabani.
