DIYARBAKIR, Turkey, Jan 3, 2008 (AFP) — At least three people were killed and 35 injured in a car-bomb explosion Thursday in Diyarbakir, the main city in Turkey's predominantly Kurdish southeast, hospital sources said.

Police confirmed that the blast was caused by a car-bomb after giving an initial toll of some 20 injured.

The powerful blast occurred as a military vehicle was passing on a road in the city centre, some 100 metres (yards) from a military base and billets.
