ANKARA, July 1, 2010 (AFP) — Eleven Kurdish rebels, a soldier and three members of a Kurdish militia, part of the security forces, were killed in clashes in southeast Turkey, Anatolia news agency reported Thursday.

Military sources confirmed that four members of the security forces were killed in the clashes, which erupted overnight Wednesday to Thursday when rebels from the separatist Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) attacked a military unit in a rural area in Siirt province.

The 11 militants were killed in an ensuing military operation, Anatolia said.
