Turkish authorities seek to ban main Kurdish party: reports |
|
ANKARA, Nov 16, 2007 (AFP) - Turkish prosecutors on Friday started action to ban the main pro-Kurdish political party in Turkey, which has been accused of colluding with Kurdish rebels, television channels reported. Prosecutors asked the Constitutional Court to ban the Democratic Society Party (DTP), the reports said. The DTP was founded in 2005 and has its origins in another pro-Kurd party which was also ordered to disband because of alleged links to the outlawed Kurdish Workers Party (PKK). The legal action by the Supreme Court prosecutors came amid heightened tensions with Iraq caused by Turkey's threat to launch cross border attacks on PKK bases. |
