Suspected Kurdish held in Germany over firebombings

Suspected Kurdish held in Germany over firebombings

- A Turkish woman of Kurdish origin has been arrested in Germany and accused of carrying out seven firebombings for the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), federal prosecutors said Monday.

The 35-year-old suspect is believed to have carried out the attacks with petrol bombs in and around Dortmund, western Germany in March 1996, the federal prosecutor's office said in a statement.

The buildings targeted including banks, travel agencies, two post offices and a police station.

The woman was arrested after returning to Germany in January and filing a request for asylum.

The PKK is considered a terrorist organization by Ankara, the European Union and the United States.

Its bloody separatist campaign in southeastern Turkey has claimed nearly 37,000 lives since 1984.
